Woodyfest 2018: Guthrie Kids & the Family Band
Guthrie Kids
Three Generations Take Stage
Members of the Guthrie [Sidenote: The Guthrie Family Kids share the spotlight in part twenty-six of our ongoing Woodyfest 2018 coverage.] family performed a musical showcase at Okemah’s St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon of the 2018 festival. First up was Serena Guthrie, Woody Guthrie’s great-granddaughter and daughter of Abe Guthrie. Friend-of-the-Festival Cathy Woolsey briefly joined all of the performers on one song, after which young Sophia Irion performed solo. Irion’s parents are Johnny Irion and Sarah Lee Guthrie (one of Woody’s granddaughters).
Rounding out the great-grandchildren, Shivadas “Moe” Guthrie and Jacklyn Guthrie (Annie Guthrie’s children), and Marjorie Midwood (Cathy Guthrie’s daughter) all performed. Granddaughter and one-half of Folk Uke Cathy Guthrie brought her ukulele. Grandson Cole Quest provided resonator guitar and grandson-in-law Johnny Irion and granddaughter Annie Guthrie both played guitar as family members sang either solo or together.
